Maori Name: Haature/ Hauture | Scientific Name: Trachurus novaezelandiae
Jack Mackerel are known as Yellowtail. Swim in big schools throughout New Zealand in
particular off the north-eastern coast. They are mostly found in mid-water or near the bottom
close to shore and can be found in waters shallower than 150m.
In 3 years they grow to 25cm and can live up to 28 years.
