Maori Name: Kuparu | Scientific Name: Zeus faber
John Dory are found in warm inshore coastal waters around New Zealand, north of Cook Strait.
Commonly found in depths of 50m and occassionally 300m.
Females are larger than males, reaching a maximum length of 60cm.
Females at maturity reach 29-35cm and males 23-29cm, with a life span of 12 years.
